Growing Pains

If you’ve followed us for any length of time, then you know that we collect and donate Barbie dolls to girls in need. It’s a journey that started long before The Barbie Girls Project ever existed, all the way back to my childhood. That’s when I first gifted two special girls with dolls from my collection, the impact of which forever changed how I looked at toys, gifts, and friendship. As a mom, The Barbie Girls Project became my way of passing those values down to my daughter.

We typically receive a constant supply of doll donations from collectors and their spouses or parents who want to see the dolls loved by someone new rather having them take up space in closets or landfills. Non-profits, schools, and mentoring programs rely on networking with us for restocking their toy inventory and to spread the word about their programs and youth services. And since the pandemic, the need for fostering friendships and how to cope with trauma have become crucial to the well-being of all.

Thus, the new era of The Barbie Girls Project launched on June 27, 2022 as an LLC as a profit social enterprise that still collects and donates dolls, but it is NOT a non-profit. Instead, we rely on a variety of partnerships, products, and services to better reach the community:

  • We offer tax deductible receipts for your monetary and doll donations through our 501(c)3 fiscal agent.

  • We participate in Give Back Box, a program that lets you ship up to 70 lbs per box to us for a flat $20 each.

  • We use UPS to get discounted flat rate ground shipping when shipping to organizations requesting dolls.

  • We sell a growing list of doll products online, including odds, mismatches, and vintage items, with plans to sell sustainably ethnic handmade clothing and jewelry for dolls in the coming months.

  • We offer doll-themed events and workshops for youth and families to promote doll play therapy, friendship, and community impact.

From our new website thebarbiegirlsproject.com, you can now make a donation or browse through our directory of other organizations by geographical local that will accept doll donations, check our community calendar for upcoming events, nominate mentored or low-income students enrolled in fashion, hair, or makeup programs at the high school or college level, or shop through our current products for sale. We remain active on social media, so feel free to comment on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, or leave us a Google Review.
