My 10 Favorite Books to Read

Books that stand the test of time

Reading during quarantine. Isn't that what everyone seems to be doing? I admit, I've not done it enough, but I actually plan to right after this blog :-)

“What's your favorite book?"

It's a question I get asked a lot by people who find out I'm a writer/author. Occasionally, my friends also ask, but with the invention of social media book sharing sites like GoodReads, BookBub, and LibraryThing, it's easier than ever for my contacts to see what I like and don't like and why. Seems like everyone's always trying to peg me down for what I'm good for. And I have to say, so much of what has inspired me over the years have come from a variety of sources that may surprise you. Not including the scores of series books I've loved as an adult (with the exception of my first two faves because each series name doubles as the title of the book I liked best as a teen), here are my standalone picks I would re-read in a heartbeat:

The List

1. Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery

2. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

4. Say Goodnight, Gracie by Julie Reece Deaver

5. In His Steps by Charles M. Sheldon

6. Sun Stand Still by Steve Furtick

7. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

8. An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser

9. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

10. The Land of Trees and Heroes by Joan Aiken

As you can see, I have a pretty diverse mix of genres that have made quite an impact in my life. From classics, to inspirational fiction, mysteries and suspence, children's tales, romance, and Christian self-help, they've made me who I am today. Many of them I own digitally or as hardcovers and paperbacks, which are sufficiently tattered. And for good reason! I could have added a few more on, as it was tough to pare it down to just #mytop10books. Those that didn't make the cut but are nonetheless special to me, are:

Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

The World's Best Fairy Tales: A Reader's Digest Anthology

If you've not heard of or read any of the titles mentioned, now might be the perfect time to give them a try! Let me know which ones you enjoy the most by commenting below.
